Drivetrain Test Bench PCB for Formula Student

While the race day typically gathers all the attention, a less visible part is the careful development of the drivetrain and the ubiquitious testing involved.

In this project, I developed a novel PCB for the drivetrain test bench for the Swiss formula student team AMZ Racing. The test bench provides an invaluable method to test all drivetrain components of the electric race car (electric motors, battery pack, inverter) using “hardware-in-the-loop” (HiL) by “simulating” a race. The PCB contains a large low-voltage circuitry for the signal transmission to the race car and a high-voltage circuit to measure the voltages and currents transferred between the battery pack and the electric motors.
